## ## Rare Red V jersey at auction

Today PaperA rare 1929 30 St George jersey has been unearthed and is now up for auction closing on Thursday week, June 7. This jersey features the first time the famous Red V made an appearance. The St George District Rugby League Club made its debut in the NSWRL in 1921. While the club played its first decade in the famous red and white, for most of that time the design featured hoops. None St George ran on for the first time with a distinctive Red V on a white background in the 1929 season. Then commonly referred to as the Dragon Slayers, St George had adopted what is now one of the game’s most distinctive jerseys. This jersey was worn again in 1930 but then was replaced by butcher stripe designs which the club used until 1946 when the Red V was returned this time without the logo. St George and the dragon reappeared in the late 1950s but this time it was smaller and in the traditional right breast location. This jersey from 1929 was the first time the famous logo appeared on the jumper and was used for just two seasons. It also has a white patch with a red No5 on the back.
